Breast is best. But not always easy. That’s why The Birth Hospital offers multiple services to help keep you and your baby happy and healthy as soon as possible.

To prepare for breastfeeding, we begin with a Breastfeeding Your Baby – Getting Off to a Good Start class before baby arrives. Breastfeeeding Your Baby – Beyond the Early Weeks is attended after you give birth, with your baby, help guide you through the breastfeeding experience.

Exclusive breastfeeding is the best way to begin is to help your baby learn to feed well at breast and to ensure a good milk supply. When your baby is breastfeeding well, we encourage waiting until your baby is about 4 to 6 weeks old before offering bottles of expressed breastmilk as you prepare to return to work and/or a more active lifestyle.

If your baby is unable to breastfeed, and/or pumping is needed to assist in establishing a breastmilk supply, we have the Medela Symphony Pump for use during your stay. We encourage you to contact your insurance provider during your pregnancy to learn more about the options in breast pumps that may be made available to you. We’re happy to guide you in your search for the best pump for your needs at home.

When you return home, our Breastfeeding Helpline is your connection to our board certified Lactation Consultants who can answer your questions Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Simply call 262.243.6632 for assistance, including scheduling Outpatient Lactation Consultations if needed.
